Henk van Ess

Journalist

Dutch-born Henk van Ess is, according to The Economist, New York Times and CNBC, “a reporter and a technology expert”. He is specialized in events and workshops about serious social media, search, crowd sourcing, long tail projects and internet strategy. He is also a tech author (latest: ʻThe Google Codeʼ, Pearson and Data Journalism, Boom), trainer and strategic internet consultant for radio, TV, magazines and newspapers. He chairs the VVOJ (Dutch–Flemish organisation for investigative journalists). Van Ess has trained over 4000 professionals in the practical and critical use of the web, multimedia, social media, cross media and internet research. He has run workshops for the media in Europe, the US and Canada (e.g. Spiegel, Die Zeit, AD, ABC, ARD, CBC, FD, HDC, NOS, NDP, NRC, NVB, Persgroep, RNW, Zembla, VRT, NCRV, KRO, AVRO, Stern, FD, VN, Volkskrant, ZDF) and does in company training and events for companies and government bodies. Henk is also deeply involved in the worldwide training of reporters and multimedia specialists. He is co-founder of the European Centre for Computer Assisted Research and is a regular speaker on social media & 'digital diggingʼ at international conferences.
